At MD PHARMA, we strongly believe in European values and are total advocates of the benefits of the single market in all sectors. Healthcare is no different! Free trade of medicines within the EEA has indisputably created a multitude of options within the pharmaceutical supply chain, enhancing accessibility of medicines for patients and healthcare professionals. Decades of free movement of medicines within Europe have resulted in possibly the most efficient pharmaceutical supply chain in existence, promoting competition within the market whilst hindering abusive monopolistic pricing strategies that would otherwise exist should intracommunity trade not be possible.

MD PHARMA is a longstanding operator in the Portuguese market. We supply a multitude of clients all around Europe with Portuguese origin medicines. We have also been a longstanding member of the European Association of Euro-Pharmaceutical Companies (EAEPC | www.eaepc.org), of which our General Manager, Antonio Mendonça Alves, currently sits as a board member.

We operate under a strict quality control program, sourcing only from previously qualified reliable and legitimate suppliers (either directly from the marketing authorization holder or from authorized wholesalers fully compliant to European GDP standards). Over 20 years of experience allows us to guarantee that all the products we distribute are of top quality.

All our warehouse facility, in the Lisbon area, is fully equipped and holds a wholesaler dealer’s licences [WDL] issued by the competent authorities. MD PHARMA has temperature controlled units that allow us to store any pharmaceutical product in pristine conditions, whatever the storage requirement (cold-chain, controlled room temperature or other) may be.

More recently we have been working intensely with our national authority (via our national association APIEM) to create a regulatory framework that would allow for generalized imports of products from other EEA countries into Portugal. We strongly believe it is about time the Portuguese operators within the pharmaceutical supply chain, and untimely the patients in Portugal, also reap the benefits of accessing more affordable medicines available elsewhere within the single market. We hope to initiate import activities very shortly.

MD PHARMA Group is a family-owned pharmaceutical wholesaling group based in Portugal. Since its inception, the Group has always been open to the world and has over 20 years of experience in wholesaling pharmaceuticals into different parts of the globe. We believe every pack is important and can make the difference in a patient’s wellbeing, that is why we never compromise in the quality of everything we do! Be it through thorough qualification of all our suppliers and clients, continued investment in our facilities to be able to accommodate specific storage requirements of all the products we market, constant monitoring of temperature parameters throughout the supply chain or continuous communication and feedback with all our stakeholders; product safety and service quality is at the core of our Group’s culture!

Our Group has built a solid reputation over the years and are active members of various industry associations. A good example of the Group’s built up reputation is the fact that the Group’s General Manager, Antonio Mendonça Alves, is currently also the President of the Portuguese Association of Importers and Exporters of Medicines (APIEM | www.apiem.pt)

The pharmaceutical wholesaling activities of the group have been divided into 3 different companies, all fully licenced and compliant to European good distribution practise [GDP] standards:
